Internet Explorer Freeze
It is a confirmed problem by Microsoft that Internet Explorer may freeze in certain conditions, regardless of the site or application being accessed. If you experience such an occurrence, taking the following steps may assist you to cure the problem:
Make sure that all latest Service Packs for Internet Explorer are installed. Use Windows Update (Start menu | Windows Update) or download the Service Packs from support.microsoft.com.
1. Freezes in Internet Explorer are often caused by bugged video drivers. You should check the web site of your video board manufacturer for driver updates, but in the meantime you can do the following:
- Use the default mouse pointers, and not customized or 3rd-party add-on pointers.
- Turn down your colour depth. (Right click the desktop and choose Properties | Appearance | Settings).
- Turn down graphics hardware acceleration. (Start | Settings | Control Panel | System | Performance | Graphics button).
- Turn off desktop wallpaper.
2. Poorly written Internet Explorer extensions (known as Browser Helper Objects) and "Spyware" programs may cause Internet Explorer crash and freezing. Use "Anti-Spy" programs, such as Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com, to clean the system.
